Germantown MD Real Estate
It’s hard to imagine that just over 30 years ago Germantown was more rural than anything else. Once a primarily agricultural community and a railroad town, Germantown has since become one of the Washington metro area’s largest population centers and the Germantown, MD real estate market now offers single-family homes and townhomes, not farms and farmland.
It was the building of Interstate 270 that woke up this sleepy farming town in the 1960s and ‘70s. Once the I-270 was completed and traveling to and from Germantown became a virtual breeze, the demand for Germantown, MD real estate rose and has never abated since.
Today, the community is comprised of a dynamic, colorful mosaic of different neighborhoods, each with its own distinct features and offering a diverse selection of properties for sale. The Waters Landing community, for example, features townhome and condominium neighborhoods, as well as a variety of single-family homes. Much of the real estate in Germantown is built along traditional lines, echoing the design of the existing architecture of the community’s historic homes. There are more than a few Colonial Revivals here, both new and existing, as well as Victorian homes and townhouses, Craftsman-style residences and ranch-style homes that were prevalent during the post-World War II era.
